On Sunday 8 May, children young and young-at-heart living in Australia, New Zealand, United States and Canada, will be celebrating Mother’s Day. If you watch television, you’ve probably seen a multitude of ads promoting ‘the perfect gift for your Mother’. I find these really annoying as – funnily enough – mothers are individuals just like everyone else, and are therefore unlikely to all enjoy the same stereotypical gifts (think cooking, crooner or chocolate-related).
I’m also wary of any ‘day’ that insists you buy more stuff. I’ve no doubt the best gift you can give, is your love, attention, time and presence.
Don’t get me wrong! Pampering our mothers is a lovely thing to do, just make sure you take the time to think about what your Mum, as an individual, would truly enjoy and tune out all the commercial hype.
That’s why when LUSH cosmetics asked me if I’d be interested in reviewing their limited edition Mother’s Day range, I considered if this would be appropriate. I decided it was because:
- As always, this is a transparent, unpaid review where I can say whatever I think;
- I’m a long-time fan of LUSH’s social and environmental values;
- Like me, my Mum adores a relaxing soak in the bath.
The 3 vegan products I reviewed were the: Ladybird Bubble Bar, Rose Bombshell Bath Bomb and the Yummy Mummy Shower Cream.
Each of these items arrived in a box packed by Maddy 🙂 I love that LUSH lets you know the people behind the products and even the postage!
The first product I tested was the Rose Bombshell Bath Bomb – made with rose absolute, Sicilian lemon, Turkish rose oil, floral geranium and rose petals. If your mother has an aversion to the colour pink or sweet smelling flowers, I’d give this one a miss. For everyone else this fizzy ball of goodness has the ability to transport you to a candy-scented wonderland. Relaxing in the vivid pink waters, surrounded by delicate rose petals, I kept feeling like I was at a decadent high-tea for one…if only I’d prearranged a glass of champagne (organic of course!) and a vegan cupcake. I’m personally more of a lavender bath bomb person, but I still found this one to be an enjoyable change.
Next up was the super sweet looking Ladybird Bubble Bar – made with a combination of geranium and peppermint oil. Unlike the bath bomb, which is all used up in one go, this little ladybird can be used to enliven multiple bath-times. Simply crumble a little bit under running water. This was my personal favourite! Less flowery smelling than the bath bomb but just as delightful and relaxing.
Finally, I tried the Yummy Mummy Shower Cream – made with Fair Trade organic cocoa butter, Brazilian orange and geranium oil. This shower cream felt really nice on my skin, however if your Mum prefers subtle scents, she may find this one a little on the stronger side. It’s also very….very purple 🙂 I decided I needed a second opinion, so of course who better to ask than my own Mum? Her verdict? She told me she really liked the shower cream and described it as: “luxurious”, “moisturising” and “invigorating”.
For me, these limited edition products from LUSH are perfect for anyone (male or female, parent or not) who enjoys baths, pampering, nice smells and bright colours. LUSH products are cruelty-free, handmade fresh locally, use ethically-sourced ingredients and come in eco-friendly or zero packaging.
For readers based in Australia or New Zealand, you can connect with LUSH via Facebook and Twitter. LUSH is also available in the UK, US and Canada.

They really are Naya! I love that they’re a ‘guilty pleasure’ that you don’t actually have to feel guilty about at all 😉

Sophia – the only downside to the ladybird is that it’s so cute, I felt mean crumbling it up 😉
